Internationalisation

Being in an au pair in your home country can be a disappointment. Since I decided to stay in Holland and be an au pair this close to my own house I realized that my discovery of the world was over. One reason why I became an au pair was because of possibility to see and discover more of the world. To embrace another country, another culture and another language. Those three factors were for sure the things who kept me in Italy (and little Sara did). It was absolutely a good choice to come back to Holland, but I knew that I hadn't seen enough of Italy. That's sad, but that's life.

So since a week or six I'm an au pair again. The distance between my own house and the house of my hostfamily is only one hour by train. And I think being an au pair in your own country at least for me is even better than going into the world. I'll tell you why:
  • My hostfamily has a lot of books in all kind of different languages, so I read in English, German and Dutch with the kids.
  • I see little more of my own country which is good as well. Nature is so beautiful here, that it feels like I'm on holidays every week when I returned from home.
  • I met someone from Canada, so I can improve my English while I'm in Holland and he can bring some traditional things from there into my life
  • We eat things I never eat before from all over the world. So that make it almost another culture to me
  • The kids and I can communicate without any problems of not understanding eachother
  • Every family has it's own odds which make them attractve, therefor you don't have to sit in an airplane for hours and fly to the other end of the world
I just want to say that you can explore so much close to where you live! I still want to travel, because that's something I like to do, but I need to remember that even when I live in this little country I can discover, embrace and see!
